The Davis Lab participated in the Chemistry Department Open House on April 19. Organized in collaboration with the Yale Pathways to Science Program, the department welcomed ~100 regional middle/high-school students to tour our labs. In our lab, students learned about microscopy and got some hands-on time with the microscopes. Amit and Ian shared how brightfield imaging can be used to identify and track tardigrades. Raibat and Shervin shared fluorescence microscopy of cells. Participants were able to image a cell and use a micromanipulator to touch the cell. Michael shared our optical photothermal infrared microscope and how vibrations can be used to image tissues in a completely label free way. We hope to see some of these scientists in our lab over the coming years!
